Today we’re off to Ilkley for the ‘Beyond The Baseline’ music event held in association with the Lexus Ilkley Open Tennis Tournament…
While world-class tennis remains at the heart of the Lexus Ilkley Open, the live music line-up throughout the week will create a vibrant summer atmosphere where the community can come together and enjoy great sport, music and hospitality.
We set off fairly handy as we had to load in at 2 pm…
The plan was to head straight to Ilkley and find a pub near the venue…
Ilkley is a picturesque Victorian spa town and civil parish in the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It sits on the southern bank of the River Wharfe at the lower edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
We headed north up the motorway…
Passing through Skipton…
And through the valley of Wharfedale…
Eventually we arrived at our pub of choice…
The Riverside Hotel, Ilkley is a family-run hotel beside the River Wharfe, at the foot of Ilkley Moor. En-suite rooms with breakfast, home-cooked food and CAMRA real ales.
We had an hour or so…
We started off with a great Yorkshire pint…
Light and refreshing, Saltaire Blonde ale balances soft malt flavours with subtle spice from Bohemian Saaz hops. 4.0% ABV
“Why aren’t you by the river?”
Oops…
That’s better…
The River Wharfe is a river in Yorkshire, England originating within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. For much of its middle course it is the county boundary between West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Its valley is known as Wharfedale.
Keith was coming back after ordering food…
“Custy, la…”
It was all good…
Traditional Haddock & Chips, served with mushy peas or garden peas. £15.95Riverside Steak & Guinness Pie, served with chips & garden peas. £14.50Riverside Large Haddock & Chips, served with mushy peas or garden peas. £19.95
So was the beer!
We’re top of the hops again😉
We’d heard there was a delay at the venue so we had one more for the road…
Golden Best is our session-friendly mild. An amber coloured beer with subtle soft-fruit notes and delicate hop character that give it a smooth, mellow flavour. The clean malt profile is the best expression of Golden Promise barley and keeps the beer balanced and refreshing.
Best enjoyed outside…
The tennis club wasn’t that far so we walked along the river…
We spotted the van…
“What the deuce…?”
Now to find the dressing room…
Nice work by the tape op
A room with a view…
We decided to have a look at what food was on offer around the site…
First service…
Tiro’s take on traditional, Sicilian street food with a modern twist has cemented itself as a firm favourite in Bradford – focaccias, arancini and loaded fries, rounded off with specials (deep-fried lasagne, anyone?) that’ll keep you coming back time and time again.
Second service…
The Peacock Roadshow serve authentic Indian street food straight off large paella hot plates cooked on a naked gas flame. This is all done from an outdoor gazebo in which we set up our stall. We are fast becoming a well recognised, respected and in demand brand.
Carl was practicing his forehand…
Anyone for tennis?
New balls please…
Back in the dressing room we were still waiting for the beer…
At last!!!
Help yourself lads…
The Ilkley Brewing Co. had kindly supplied us with their latest range of beers made in collaboration with the Sleaford Mods👏
They brewed the beer to celebrate the launch of their much-anticipated new studio album. This incredible new beer combines a tropical and juicy new hop variety called Krush, with established big-hitters Mosaic & Nelson Sauvin.
Gobseeker!
Shortly after, Carl and I were summoned to the front of stage for a publicity pic…
Arriving back we heard the news that the show might not commence at all due to a faulty P.A. 😮
You cannot be SERIOUS!!!
This could be to our advantage…
PERONI Style: Pale lager / pilsner-style crisp beer. Origin: Brewed in Italy in 1846 in Vigevano. Ingredients: Made with barley malt, maize (Nostrano dell‘Isola), hops, and water.
Whatever the problem was, it was now solved!!!

The crowd were great!!
Game, set and match…
After the show, I met up with my cousin Claire and her family to watch the Lightning Seeds…
They played a great show but it was getting late and we had to head back…
