The Farm – Scarborough Spar 2023

Saturday August 26th 2023

Our first indoor concert of the year takes us to Scarborough Spa, located in Scarborough’s picturesque South Bay and is one of the most prestigious venues for conferences, exhibitions, entertainment and events on the Yorkshire Coast.

12.15 start as we need to be in Scarborough around 4pm for a sound-check so no pub stop-off.

Also no gold bus today, travelling in the car with the gear going in the van.

Just Alex to pick up as Roy & Keith went ahead separately sightseeing…

Peter & Carl are here…

Keith found a pub to stop off at in Harrogate – The Nelson Inn…

The Inn was built around 1776 and remained as a private house until early in the 19th century. For much of its early years the pub used to be more or less a farm with a sack over the door where locals came in for a drink.

He tried a pint of the Brightside Brewery bitter…

The hops that are used are Cascade (hop cones and pellets), Columbus and Centennial.
The beer is 3.8% ABV and is more on the malty side, focusing on the biscuit, Caramel & Vanilla notes which the crystal malts bring out, the intensity of the roast barley gives it light nuttiness to the flavour and contributes towards the colour.

The food was stunning…

At least we had some nice scenery to look at…

And a pit stop near Tadcaster…

Anyone tried drinking a boiling hot over-full costa coffee in a fast moving vehicle?

Meanwhile Roy had stopped off in Walkington near Beverley…

“The Ferguson Fawsitt is a friendly pub serving good home cooked food.”

Black Sheep on draught…

Black Sheep Ale is a full flavoured premium bitter with a rich, fruity aroma. Brewed using generous handfuls of choice Golding hops, it has a perfectly balanced bittersweet, malty taste with a long, dry and bitter finish.

Went on a bit of a crawl…

The barrel in Walkington is a proper friendly traditional English Village pub. They serve excellent quality hand pulled cask conditioned real ale.

Still, we had our nice views…

Surely not far now…

Eventually we arrived in Scarborough…

Lovely town

We parked outside the venue…

Impressive!

Off to dump our bags…

And check the drinks fridge…

Peroni’s flagship beer, Nastro Azzurro, is a European pale lager. It dates back to 1963 and offers a mild, easy drinking experience, differentiated from other European lagers by its distinctive Mediterranean flavor profile.

The sound-check was delayed by over an hour so we headed back outside to find something to eat…

The end is nigh

We bumped into huge Farm fan Paul Lomax and his fiancé Belinda…

They told us there was a chippy about 10 minutes up the road…

It didn’t take us long to find Britain’s best…

Couldn’t argue…

Anyway, back to the venue…

Nu was checking the mics…

Carl & Roy checking the rhythm…

I was checking the adjoining bar…

Since Molson Coors’ launched the beer in collaboration with Spain’s La Sagra brewery, Madrí Excepcional – shortened and Anglicised to Madri by drinkers – has been put behind more than 7,500 bars in the UK. Madri is the sixth best-selling world lager, in terms of value, in the country, says its brewer. Not bad for a drink you’d never heard of before the pandemic.

I only had a half…

The chips were salty your honour

Sound check over, we’d arranged to meet guests in the town, little did we know it was a long steep climb up many steps…

We we’re heading for the Cask Inn…

We ordered 3 pints of Hophead by the Dark Star brewery…

Full-bodied and full-flavoured, Hophead is Dark Stars mothership. Hoppy and golden with a distinct floral aroma and mighty elderflower hit from the Cascade hops. A stellar session beer.

They went down a treat, we ordered more but then had to think about getting back to the venue, thankfully our guests showed us a short cut and in no time we were back at sea level…

We were thrilled to meet and chat to our old mates from Leeds outside the Spa…

Time was pressing so we headed back to the dressing room…

This one is for Alex😃

A big crowd had gathered in the hall…

Time to go on!

What a brilliant crowd and great reaction…

After the show we watched Cast…

It was a brilliant gig but it was getting late and we had a long journey ahead of us…

A perfect way to end our summer of gigs.
